Transanal Endoscopic Microscopic Surgery (TEMS or TEO)
This minimally invasive technique allows removal of rectal adenomas and early cancers without a major colorectal resection. It involves the use of an operating proctoscope, with combined insufflation/suction and stereoscopic optics. The advantages of this procedure are better visualisation of tumour especially the proximal (upper)extent. It makes high and mid-rectum lesions accessible, with precise resection and closure technique. This leads to less local recurrence for adenomas.
